Classical Christian Education and the Church

Join us at the Nashotah House Theological Seminary in March, 2025

Classical Christian Education and the Church

We invite you to a two-day gathering of leaders in classical education to consider the ways in which the church has informed and shaped what we now often call classical Christian education.

  • Location: The Nashotah House Theological Seminary, Nashotah, Wisconsin (2777 Mission Road, Nashotah, WI 53058)
  • March 27-29, 2025
  • Common Text: Early Christianity and the Greek Paideia, by Werner Jaeger
  • Registration: Now Open
  • Registration Fee: $100

Each year the Alcuin Fellowship conducts a retreat for a small group of leaders who are part of the renewal of classical Christian education in the United States. This spring, we are hosting a group of 40 people to join us to discuss the relationship between the church and the renewal of classical education in the United States and abroad.

This retreat will be hosted by the Nashotah House Theological Seminary on their beautiful campus in Nashotah, Wisconsin. The seminary is collegial and beautiful – the ideal setting for two days of presentations and discussion.

Some remarkable people will be at the retreat, including leaders from many of the organizations who are part of the classical Christian education renewal. We hope you will join us. There is small fee for the retreat. We ask that each participant get a copy of the short book, Early Christianity and  Greek Paideia and read through it prior to coming.

Reflect with us on the history of the church and its present engagement in the renewal of classical Christian education.

The history and culture of the church helped to shape education as it was known around the world until about 1900 when the progressive revolution in education emerged and largely replaced it. For over 40 years now, Americans have been recovering the the classical Christian education developed by the church, but much work still needs to be done.
