Higher Education and the K-12 Classical Christian Education Renewal

March 4-6, 2027

Retreat Description

The Alcuin Fellowship invites you to join a gathering of college and university leaders as we consider higher education’s involvement in the renewal of classical Christian education. In recent years the landscape of higher education has shifted, the K-12 classical Christian education renewal has continued to expand, and the number of colleges offering undergraduate and/or graduate programs in classical education has grown.  In order to understand and think strategically about these dynamics, we will gather with three goals in mind: (1) to network and increase awareness of the growing number of college/university programs, (2) to collaborate on responding to common challenges, and (3) to cast vision for higher education’s contribution to the classical Christian education ecosystem over the next 10-50 years.

Each year the Alcuin Fellowship conducts a national topical retreat for leaders and teachers who are part of the renewal of classical Christian education.  Through formal presentations, collaborative conversation, and fellowship, we will grow together in our understanding of the opportunities and challenges for higher education’s involvement in the classical Christian education movement.  This retreat will be hosted by Veritas School at their beautiful campus in Richmond, VA, an ideal setting for our consideration of the intersection between higher education and the K-12 classical Christian education renewal.

We ask that each participant purchase a copy of the book Teaching and Christian Practices: Reshaping Faith & Learning by David Smith and James Smith and read through it prior to attending.
